Melbourne’s 170 Russell will reopen this Friday following a fire in the venue last Saturday night.
According to a statement from the club, it will be closed for repair until Cradle of Filth’s show on Friday night.
“The fire damage is minor however due to the water clean up, the Pouya show originally scheduled to take place tomorrow (Tuesday) will now go ahead at Max Watts,” it states.
The venue says the fire was caused by an extraction fan.
“The fire started in, and was contained to, an industrial extraction fan unit located in the roof behind the stage.
“The venue fire sprinklers activated immediately containing the fire, as did the emergency smoke extractors which sucked smoke out of the building.”
170 Russell says no patrons were hurt and the response from staff and fire crews was amazing.
“Patron safety is always our first and foremost priority and we are thankful that no one was injured.
“Venue staff and security did an amazing job enacting the emergency evacuation plan and assisting in everyone’s safe exit from the building.
“Huge props to MFB (Melbourne Metropolitan Fire Brigade) for their 4 minute response, to MC Alex Dyson for keeping everyone cool, and to the patrons for remaining calm and following staff instructions.”
