Greece’s psychedelic heavy rockers 1000Mods have recently announced their very first Australian tour set to kick off in April and are also headlining Brisbane’s famous Mojo Burning Festival on April 6th brought to you by Beats Cartel. Fans of the band and festival could not be more excited to have them headlining an amazing line up for this year’s festival. 1000Mods have toured Europe and the US and we are now extremely fortunate to have them on our shores touring through Canberra, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Geelong, Adelaide, Perth and finishing up the tour in Scarborough. 1000Mods drummer, Labros G. enthused about coming to Australia and explained how the tour came about.
“We are really looking forward to coming, we have been doing a lot in the last couple of years and we have always wanted to come to Australia. Actually, when Christian (Tryhorn from Beats Cartel) contacted us something like 2 months ago, it was about Mojo Burning and we discussed if it was possible to combine it with doing a complete tour. Once we had that idea and some specific dates around Mojo Burning, we said let’s do this! Christian is taking care of everything.”
1000Mods are already hugely successful and are very much on their way up to being even more so and to being an internationally recognized band. Having played many festivals and some huge gigs since forming back in 2006, including a recent sold out home show at renowned Athens venue, Theatro Vrachon which has a capacity of 3,500, I asked Labros for some of his most memorable moments playing gigs or festivals.
“Maybe the biggest that we have ever played was in 2015. We played the Rockwave Festival in Athens. In 2015 we were the main support for The Black Keys. So, it was us, The Black Keys, The Black Angels and a couple more Greek bands. It was unbelievable, there was around 5,000 people. It was just amazing. Another festival that we had a lot of fun at was Hellfest in France that we played last year. We played there for the first time and our pit was completely packed, people were crowd surfing and moshing. It was much more than we expected, so it was an amazing experience.”
With a stellar line up of heavy riff filled rock, psychedelic rock and blues rock bands on the line up for Mojo Burning this year such as Hobo Magic, Stoker, Hammers, Whoopie Cat, The Blackwater Fever, Tumbleweed and many more, Labros explained which bands he is already familiar with and who he is looking forward to seeing.
“We already knew Whoopie Cat and Tumbleweed. And we know Seedy Jezuz because they have also toured Europe. After the line-up was complete, I also checked out The Vasco Era and they sound really good. To be honest we are looking forward to seeing and playing with all the bands.”
Doing 9 shows almost back to back while they are here in Australia Labros talked about how, whilst any tour can be tiring, 9 shows in comparison to some of their previous tours is quite manageable. He also went on to say what he loves most about being a touring band.
“If you compare it with our European or US tour it is really not that long, we had a lot of shows on those doing like 40 gigs in a row so this one may go a little fast for us. My favourite thing about touring is that you get to go places that you have never been. It is great seeing people enjoying your music all over the world!”
Talented live performers and musicians, 1000Mods are set to gain a much bigger following than they already have in Australia after they tour here bringing us their heavy, melodic, riff filled psychedelic rock.
