Over the past 7 years singer-songwriter Ziggy Alberts has cultivated a uniquely special and exciting career. From busking in Byron to selling out venues around the world, the journey from picking up a guitar in 2011 to new single “Laps Around The Sun“ has been unlike any other.
Previous single “Love Me Now“ has been a huge step for the East Coast songwriter, getting his music to the ears of millions of new fans. “Love Me Now” was added to triple j high rotation, has had frequent airplay on the Hit Network, was featured on multiple Spotify and Apple Music playlists including New Music Friday and The A-List, as well as New Artist of The Week on Apple Music – collectively racking up an impressive 2 million streams in just under 3 months.
Love Me Now” has also been featured on the Shazam charts for several weeks, as well as debuting at #11 on the ARIA singles charts, #10 on the iTunes digital charts and #1 on the AIR independent singles charts, and was performed (along with a cover of Chance The Rapper’s “Juke Jam” on triple j for ‘Like A Version’.
It all began on Australia’s East Coast. An avid free surfer and environmental enthusiast, Ziggy picked up a guitar and started busking. This lead to four albums; ‘Feels Like Home’ (2012), ‘Made of Water’ (2013), ‘Land & Sea’ (2014) and ‘Four Feet in the Forest EP’ (2016), multiple laps around Australia, and a self-funded and self-promoted headline European tour of 11 countries with 5,000 tickets sold, and festival performances in France, The Netherlands, and Germany.
Returning home, he embarked on the ‘Heaven Australian Tour’ in 2017 – playing his biggest shows to date. With 4 out of 5 shows selling out (QPAC Concert Hall, Enmore, Palais and Astor Theatre) Ziggy’s organically growing fan base didn’t stop him from connecting to his audience in bigger rooms – with 2,000 people singing every word to ‘Gone’, followed by pin-drop silence moments later.
This was proven again at Bluesfest 2018, when Ziggy took to the main stage in front of a swooning crowd of 5,000 people singing along.
All of this so far has been achieved completely independently with no label, no PR, and no funding. Ziggy and his family team have relied solely on social media, touring, and the power of ‘word of mouth’.
New single “Laps Around The Sun” marks the next big step for Ziggy as he heads to North America for the first time – playing shows in LA (previously sold out, but more tickets added), San Francisco (sold out), Portland, Seattle, New York (previously sold out, but more tickets added) and three Canadian shows in Vancouver (sold out), Montreal (previously sold out, but more tickets added) , and Toronto (sold out).
A classic Ziggy-style tune, “Laps Around The Sun” references environmental issues while simultaneously carrying motivational messages. As Ziggy gets ready to start his US and Canadian tour, the singalong chorus will have you feeling like you’re about to set out on your own summer adventure.
“Laps Around The Sun” will be available digitally on all platforms on August 3rd via Ziggy’s own independent label ‘Commonfolk Records’.
