Sabaton will be bringing their unique brand of military-themed Power Metal to Melbourne’s Download Festival in 2018! The last time this Swedish powerhouse made it to Australian shores, they were supporting Nightwish, with a smaller headline show of their own at the Corner Hotel; so this will be their biggest Australian date yet, by far!
WHO ARE SABATON?
Joakim Brodén – Lead vocals, keyboards
Pär Sundström – Bass, backing vocals
Chris Rörland – Guitars, backing vocals
Hannes van Dahl – Drums, backing vocals
Tommy Johansson – Guitars, backing vocals
Sabaton’s latest release is 2016’s The Last Stand, a concept album based on historical “last stand” battles, including the Lost Battalion of World War I – the US 77th Division, isolated in the Argonne Forest in October 1918. Sabaton have also been inspired by Australian troops in their song ‘Cliffs of Gallipoli,’ making for a very emotional performance on their last Australian run. But the military aficionados aren’t limited to their lyrical content – they have their own World of Tanks vehicle, the Primo Victoria, and their own mobile war game based on the Swedish Empire in 1658, Carolus Rex! You can be sure these warriors will dominate Download, and thoroughly conquer the Great Southern Land!
